About/Contact
Cuban-American Laura Lacámara is the award-winning author and illustrator of Dalia’s Wondrous Hair / El cabello maravilloso de Dalia.
Laura writes and illustrates books with humor and heart that highlight Spanish/Caribbean culture. She uses her favorite paint, Acryla Gouache, to create her illustrations.
When Laura was 8 years old, her teacher invited her to demonstrate for the class how to draw a bunny. That’s the moment Laura decided she would pursue a career in art (and maybe get a pet bunny).
Although she started out as an artist, Laura’s first published picture book was as a writer. She wrote Floating on Mama’s Song / Flotando en la canción de mamá, a story inspired by her mother who sang opera in Havana.
Laura lives in Southern California with her husband, their daughter, and a lovable mutt.
